Summer Simmons Head Coach
Summer Simmons grew up in Denison, Texas, where she attended Denison High School and was a member of the Denison High School Stingerettes Drill Team. During her sophomore year, Summer and the Denison Touch of Gold (band and drill team) marched in the Orange Bowl parade in Miami, Florida. The next year, she marched with the Touch of Gold as a Junior Lieutenant in the Neiman Marcus Thanksgiving parade in Houston. As Captain of the Stingerettes her senior year, she marched with the Touch of Gold in the Adolphus Christmas Parade in Dallas.
After graduating from high school, Summer attended Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth. While at TCU, she was a member of the TCU Showgirls dance team and performed at the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, WAC Championship basketball tournament in Las Vegas, NIT basketball tournament in Oklahoma City, and at Dallas Cowboys' half-time shows. She was also a member of the Delta Gamma sorority and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She graduated from TCU in 1998 with a BS degree in Radio/TV/Film and a minor in Speech Communication.
After college, Summer became the Drill Team director of the Sherman High School Hi-Steppers. Under her direction, the Hi-Steppers received numerous awards including Sweepstakes, Gussie Nell Davis Award of Excellence, Dr. Dreibrodt Award, Award of Excellence Officers, Solo Finalist, Solo Winner, and National Solo Finalist.
In 2000, Summer left Sherman High School and moved to Frisco. She became a staff member with the American Drill Team School where she teaches drill team camps in the summer and judges drill team competitions in the spring.
In 2001, Summer joined the staff at Plano East Senior High School and became the Cheerleading Coach; for three years, she was also the Assistant Drill Team Director of the Golden Girls.
Under her direction, the Plano East Cheerleaders have earned numerous awards which include:
- 2007 - Contest of Champions National Champions
- 2006 - ACA National Champions
- 2005 - America's Best National Champions
- 2004 - America's Best National Champions
- 2001 - NCA National Finalist
In addition to cheerleading, she teaches Communication Applications, Intro to Radio/TV, and is the Team Leader for the Speech Department.
